On a daily basis, every manufacturing company has to deal with the complicated and delicate issue of production waste, its disposal and its potential reuse. However, what for many is a problem, for Sanmiro is an opportunity.
In fact, sustainability is also this: the ability to zero waste and reuse it by giving it a new life. A complicated and tricky issue, but also a great challenge with a double advantage in terms of growth: reducing environmental impact and continuing to invest in corporate sustainability.
Waste, in fact, is a real 'hidden' cost of the production cycle, as its disposal is costly.
Plus, the possibility of reintroducing waste material back into the production cycle implies smaller quantities of raw material to be purchased.
Last but not least, by adopting a re-use philosophy, we significantly reduce our footprint on our planet.
This is what we do, for example, with the bakelite handles we produce: 'All ordinary processing waste,' explains Daniele Valsecchi, Head of Sales at Sanmiro, 'is recycled internally. We are talking about about 120 tonnes that are recovered each year from our plant and reintroduced into the production cycle. This allows us to completely reuse waste, for truly Zero Waste production.'
In short, an opportunity to be truly sustainable!
Eco+ and Rice UP: handles... born green!
Over the years, this approach has led to products with a real ‘green soul’: Eco+ and Rice UP!.
Eco+ is our cookware line made from PEFC-certified wood flour, i.e. from sustainably managed forests. In January 2022, this innovation allowed us to obtain the PEFC certification for the products in our line.
Rice UP! is the natural evolution of Sanmiro's philosophy. Thanks to partners such as RiceHouse and Intercom Chemicals, we have created a product made from rice processing waste, the husk.
Over the years, thanks to these two ambitious projects, we have purchased more than 200,000 kg of PEFC-certified wood flour, contributing to the reforestation of many protected habitats, and more than 100 tonnes of husk, 'rescued' from its natural fate and processed to make truly green pot and pan handles.
A path towards sustainability that, between reuse of waste and attention to raw materials, continues with enthusiasm and passion for our work and for the protection of our Planet.
